Overview - Life Sciences Finishing School

Indrashil Institute of Science and Technology (IIST), an education initiative of Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd, has launched a‘Life Sciences Finishing School’ at its Kadi campus in Gujarat. The finishing school will provides short term courses viz. Certificate Courses in Industrial Microbiology, Quality Assurance & Quality Control to make graduates industry ready and assist in availing employment opportunity in biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. The initiative is in aligned with the Skill India initiative of Govt. of India. The Finishing School is a start-up venture supported by Gujarat CSR Authority and Gujarat University. These courses are designed to impart much needed practical hands on training, regulatory compliance and knowledge to make a fresh graduate employable with right kind of skills to meet the challenges of the life sciences industries.
Prof. J.S. Yadav, Ex. Director – Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad inaugurated the‘Life Sciences Finishing School’ in the presence of Mr Maheswar Sahu, Chairman- Gujarat CSR Authority on October 3, 2016.
  • Life Sciences Finishing school (LSFS) has been instituted under the GOI's Skill India initiative to create industry ready professional. The state of the art campus is located at Indrashil institute of Science and Technology, Kadi, which is an educational initiative of Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd., named after the legendary ‘Medicine Man of India’, Mr. Indravadan Ambalal Modi (Founder Chairman of Cadila Pharmaceuticals and Group Companies).
  • The finishing school will be providing short term courses in Industrial Biotechnology and Quality Assurance & Quality Control.
  • These courses will equip candidates with necessary skills to get ready for employment in various sectors.
  • The courses are accredited by Gujarat University.
  • The initiative is being assisted by Gujarat CSR Authority.

As per Prof. J.S.Yadav, “The Life Sciences Finishing School has a vision to enhance employability of the talent pool through a complementary education and training framework that aims at supplementing, rather than substituting, formal education. Both the courses are designed to have 3-months academic (lecture and practical) and 1 month training in industrial premises. The entire training program will be conducted by experienced faculties of industry and academicians in the state.”

What is a Finishing School?

The main idea of a finishing school program is to enhance employability of the labor pool through a complementary education and training framework that aims at supplementing, rather than substituting, formal education.

  • To bridge the gap between knowledge based conventional education and specific expertise that market/industry prefers for better output. 
  • To inculcate sense of responsibility, while accountable for the industrial ecosystem.
  • To help students build-up a progressive and successful career in industries with a life science, pharmaceutical and healthcare perspective
